WHATS UP WITH ALL THESE WRISTBANDS!

Alright so its been like two weeks since I started this blog and as I suspected from the beginning there has been a flurry of inactivity on my end when it comes to posting. But in the rare case that someone is taking the time out from their day to focus in on my thoughts I thought I would mention something that has been on my mind these days. WHAT'S UP WITH ALL THESE STINKIN WRISTBANDS! I mean come on I realize that their a lot of great causes out there, but for goodness sake do we need to have a different colored wristband for them all. Now I admit that in the beginning I found myself swept up in the craze and it all started with ONE. Maybe you've heard of The One Campaign, a new effort to rally Americans to fight agaist global AIDS and extreme poverty. I picked this sucker up when Natalie and I were at the United Center in Chicago seeing U2 in concert (by the way they RULE!).

Anyhoo, it made me feel kinda cool like I was contributing something to a very meaningful cause and I was letting everybody know around me that I stand for important stuff like poverty and AIDS. In reality I paid two bucks so I could wear a white bracelet on my arm and tell people I got it at the U2 concert (oh and by the way they RULE). I wore my bracelet proudly until I picked up my second at Promise Keepers, a nice red wristband to offset my white one. From there it was all downhill. I got home from Promise Keepers, opened the mail, and put on my blue alumni wristband from Oral Roberts University. Now not only am I wearing three bracelets on my arm having to explain what each one represents, but the three together also appear to symbolize my love for the good ole USA (red, white and blue) so now I'm a patriot. It all came to a crashing halt when I received my pink wristband for breast cancer awareness month. Not that breast cancer isn't important because it most certainly is, but I couldn't break the color coordination I had going on with my right arm. So in an effort not to play favorites and because I was concerned about whether the extra weight on my right side was throwing off my walking, I got rid of all my bracelets and now I again am a free man! So if you are a wristband wearer I hope you don't take offence to any of this, but know that I salute you and and the plethora of causes you support by daily dawning your wristbands in all their technicolor glory. As for me I'm enjoying not having to find clothing to match my right wrist (as if matching my clothes is high on my priority list of things anyway).

yea! you caved to the peer pressure of the blog community! I'm so glad you're here! :)
And -- good job on the first one - I actually laughed out loud. I couldn't think of a better reposte though - see http://tortelitha.blogspot.com/2005/11/word-of-day_10.html - I don't know how to insert a hyperlink in a comment so hence you have this.

YAY! Glad to have you blogging!

Seriously, the wristband thing is out of control. The bigger questions is, are there any colors LEFT for new causes? I bet not.
